Step 2: Draw your portrait using a grid
The Grid Method:
- Use the grid method to draw. Place a .5" clear acetate grid over your 8.5 x 11" printed photograph. Then create a .75" grid measuring with a ruler onto a 12 x 16.5" piece of manila cardstock.
- With a sharp, light pencil mark, draw box by box the shapes of values you see in your photograph. The grid does not lie! You must follow the boxes if you'd like your work to resemble you! Use your non-dominant hand to guide you box by box along the lines.
-Pay close attention to the shapes on and around your eyes, nose and mouth. This will ensure that your artwork looks like you!
