How to create different VALUES with drawing pencils
1. Let's begin with the "divided" scale. Using your pencil, work in very small "hatches" or little "circles" using the side of the point of the pencil in order to create an EVEN tone for each rectangle. Use the sample image on this page as a guide, seen above and below the video.
Watch this video before you begin! Each rectangle should be developed slowly. DO NOT MOVE YOUR PENCIL BACK AND FORTH IN LONG STROKES. You want to create an even tone. NO SMUDGING.
Note: Number 9 can be pure white.
2. After you are done creating the matching values to the "divided" scale, you may attempt this value scale in which you fade slowly from dark to light. Again, focus on very small pencil strokes or little circles. The goal in the end is not to notice the PENCIL STROKES. We should only see an illusion of a shadow. Of course this is difficult and takes PATIENCE. Do the best you can! I should see your effort in this.
